HELENA BREWERS VS. BILLINGS MUSTANGS

Kindrick Legion Field, Helena, MT
The Helena Brewers hosted the Billings Mustangs at Kindrick Legion Field. This ballpark opened in 1932 and went through several renovations since then. It's an old park but a pleasant place to see a game.

At least it would be if not for a pack of drunken men and women who sat in the bleachers on the first base side. Their behavior was appalling. The men cursed and taunted the visiting Mustangs most of the night while the women made numerous sexually suggestive remarks. This coarse behavior was displayed before several young children sitting in the same section. When the father of a couple of the children voiced his displeasure, the drunken men tried to pick a fight with him.

#16 - Robert Maddox
It's a shame things turned out that way because all of the Brewers employees were extremely kind and pleasant. I don't understand what grown men and women get out of taunting young minor league players who are just starting out in pro ball. The Mustangs' first baseman, Robert Maddox, was the primary target of their abuse. He made several good plays during the game which made the abusive Helena fans even more obnoxious. To Maddox's credit, he ignored them. (I should note that the other Helena fans were well behaved and supportive of their team.) I felt bad for Robert Maddox after the Helena drunks treated him so shabbily , I decided to adopt him as my favorite player in the league. We'll see Billings play two more times so I'll keep an eye on Mr. Maddox.

The Brewers won tonight's game 8-5. We had a good experience despite the drunks in the stands. In a few days, we'll see a rematch between the Brewers and Mustangs in Billings.
